 Maja Alm the third best in World Cup over all.  Just at this moment was it a double for Denmark with leding Ida Bobach (right) and Maja Alm.  Junior Ida Bobach has really senior speed.. | | Maja Alm has been unwell for the last 3 weeks, but just before the days of the last World Cup races she felt she was fit again. After today’s race she became very tearful.
– I cried because I felt so happy to get third place overall, she smiles.
She was beaten overall only by Simone Niggli and Helena Jansson, after a very good performance in the last race. She wasn't in her best shape, but navigated very well. Her team-mate Tue Lassen had also made a map of the race area beforehand, so the Danes really knew what they could expect.
The young senior has for some time now been among the very best, but fever and pain in her throat almost took away the chance to be in the fight in the final races. She didn't take part last weekend, but on Friday she was on track again. The race on Saturday was used as a bit of warming up before the last race.
Even though Maja did very well, she wasn't the best Dane in the final race. Young Ida Bobach, who has one year left as a junior, was third! – It was incredible to beat so many seniors, smiles Ida. She won three golds at JWOC earlier this year and thinks her form there was a little bit better. – And the golds there are bigger for me than this third place, because JWOC had been this year’s big goal, she says.
The Danes are really on the way up on the women’s side, and Maja thinks Signe Søes is a big reason for that. – With her being among the best, she has inspired us others. For some years there has also been a very good team feeling in Denmark, especially among the juniors, Maja says.
Signe Søes didn't take part in the final. She has had an operation on an injury and is still recovering. |
